How do I know if I need a full-home replacement?

We find there are several reasons when it’s time to replace your windows. The most common are:

  • Homes constructed before the 1980s often feature single-pane windows that are not only inefficient in terms of energy conservation but also difficult to operate. These windows typically lack modern insulation technology, leading to higher energy bills and discomfort due to drafts and temperature fluctuations. Additionally, the materials used in these older windows may have deteriorated over time, making them less functional and costly to maintain.
  • Homes built between 1980 and 2000 frequently have wood windows, which, while initially attractive and functional, are prone to rotting, especially in climates like that of Kansas City. The combination of humidity, temperature changes, and exposure to the elements can cause the wood to deteriorate, leading to issues such as water damage, mold growth, and compromised structural integrity. Homeowners may find themselves dealing with windows that are difficult to open or close, have peeling paint, or show signs of decay.
  • Homes constructed after the year 2000 often come equipped with builder-grade vinyl windows. While these windows may have been cost-effective at the time of installation, they are now reaching the end of their useful life. Common problems include broken or malfunctioning parts, glass that has become cloudy or faded due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, and drafts that indicate a loss of energy efficiency. These issues can lead to increased energy costs and a less comfortable living environment.
  • There is often a desire among homeowners to change the shape of their windows or to recreate the space in which the windows are located. This could be driven by a need for more natural light, a desire to improve the aesthetic appeal of the home, or the intention to enhance the functionality of a room. Such changes can significantly impact the overall look and feel of a home, making it more modern, spacious, and inviting.
