We all know regular A/C maintenance, good insulation and shades will help beat the summer heat. But have you ever considered how much warmth incandescent light bulbs, your dishwasher and your home’s tired windows let into your space?
Take it from us, the majority of homes we visit have at least one “open” window that’s gone undetected for a while. If your windows appear closed, but aren’t actually LOCKED, small gaps will exist between the sash and frame that let in air, dirt, bugs and water. Watch the demonstration video below for clues.
The Sleep Foundation says most doctors recommend keeping the thermostat set between 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit for the most comfortable, restorative sleep. If you like it colder at night than does your partner, the oldy but goody trick of placing a bowl of ice in front of the fan on your side of the room will assure you some truly chill z’s. Bamboo or cotton bed sheets in a percale or sateen weave will give you that luxurious, cool and crisp feel.
And what could be easier than switching to much cooler LED light bulbs (vs. incandescent and CFL), running your dirty dishes and laundry loads at night and adjusting your ceiling fans to rotate counter clockwise to push air downward into your room?
