GRIDS

Hey there, are you planning to replace windows and doors and would like to jazz up your home's look at the same time?  Well, let's talk to a design expert about window grid styles and what they can do for your home's curb appeal.  The options are many, so don't settle when you can make your home shine!

First, you should know that what we refer to as grids are the wood, vinyl or aluminum bars often placed cross-hatched in a window or door in square "checker board" or rectangular patterns for decorative purposes.  Some folks call them divided lites, grilles, or muntins - but we just call them awesome.

Jami and her team at Jami Meek Designs are here to share some pro tips to give your home an immediate face lift with grids.

"When approaching an exterior facade project, our first question at Jami Meek Designs is always, what can we do with the windows?  Windows are one of the largest architectural elements on your home and can be designed in numerous ways to achieve your preferred look.  While we are seeing a trend in black window frames, it’s what’s inside those frames that can take your upgrade to the next level."

Jamie says, "If you like more of a modern style, then perhaps no grids will achieve an open and clean look.  Looking for something more traditional?  Then we recommend using the Colonial style.  This is the most popular and will go with most exterior facades.  The last style to consider is the Craftsman or Prairie style, where the grids are closer to the frames, creating larger open glass space in the middle."

In new home construction, you'll see a trend towards using fewer bars to create a larger, more open divided lite pattern.  Or, folks adding grids in the top half or top quarter of their windows only.  But you don't have to build a brand new house to achieve a distinctive home design concept that is uniquely you!

Did you know?  Grids can be placed either on the surface of the glass (for the traditional appearance of individual pieces of glass) or in between the glass panels of a double-paned window (for a seamless glass surface and easy cleaning)?

When replacing windows, you don't have to simply replicate your current look.  There are many cool grid design variations to choose from, so you can really let your creativity shine and set your home apart!  If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the options, give us a call at (913) 362-3872 and we'll help get you started.  To see what your home might look like with updated windows, visit Jami Meek Designs to learn more about their design consultations and exterior 3D model services.
